Send us your work
Essays, reportage, poetry, art, photography, testimony, translation, documents, corrections. Nothing is published automatically — a person reads everything first.
What happens to what you send
Being plain about this matters, because you are trusting us with work and sometimes with testimony.
- It is not published. Every submission arrives as pending. Nothing on this site goes live without a person approving it by name.
- It is assessed. An automated editorial review reads it and produces a written assessment — what it claims, which claims arrive without a source, any legal or safety risk, and a recommendation. That assessment is advisory; it decides nothing. You will not see it and it is never sent to you.
- A person decides. They read your work and the assessment, and approve, ask for changes, or decline.
- If it is published, it appears on the contributions page under your name, or as Anonymous if you ask. You keep the copyright. You can ask us to take it down at any time and we will.
What gets declined
Not to be discouraging — to save you the work. This site is built on being checkable, so the things that get declined are mostly the things that would break that:
- Casualty figures and statistics with no source. The single most common reason. If you write “over 100,000 killed”, tell us who counted and in what document. If you cannot, leave the number out — the piece is stronger without it.
- Attacks on a community. Anything directed at Kashmiri Pandits, Hindus, or any group as a group. The case here is against a state’s conduct, not against a people, and we will not publish otherwise.
- Allegations against named individuals that we cannot substantiate.
- Work that is not yours, including images found online and text generated by an AI and presented as your own writing.
A sourced, careful, modest piece will get published ahead of a passionate one that cannot be checked. That is not timidity; it is the only reason anyone believes this site.
The form
One thing at a time is best. If you have a lot of material, send the strongest piece first and say so in the note.
If you would rather not use a form
Some material should not go through a web form, and some people should not be filling one in from where they are. If your submission is sensitive, or if you are anywhere that makes submitting it a risk to you, do not use this page. Write to isitonline@gmail.com first and say only that you would like to send something.
Practical warnings we would rather give you than not:
- This form is served over HTTPS, but it is a website and it is not anonymous. Your address is stored only as a one-way hash. This site loads no third-party scripts, no trackers and no fonts from anyone else’s server, and the only statistic it keeps is an aggregate daily visit count with a salt that rotates every day — described in full here. None of that is the same as anonymity.
- Photographs carry location and device data in their metadata. We do not strip it on your behalf. Remove it before you send anything if that matters to you.
- If you are describing something that happened to you or someone you know, think about whether the detail you include could identify a person who has not agreed to be identified. Tell us if you want names removed and we will remove them.
Corrections come first
If you are here to tell us we got something wrong, choose Correction to this site and give us the page, the exact claim, and the correct information with a source. Corrections are read before anything else, and the site would rather be corrected than be wrong. Our corrections policy.
